Post #6 Las Canoas work day, and other crazy things

Ah, waking up to the Las Canoas alarm clock, a rooster.  We rolled up our sleeping bags and our bed mats by 8:00 am and started painting the building by 8:30 am.  The outside of the building was done by noon so we started on the inside after that.  One of the other outdoor jobs was to push all of the water off the roof of the church because the drain pipes were higher than the top of the roof.  In other words, the roof dipped so unless you got A LOT of rain none of it would drain.  Once the roof was cleared Mr. Klien's Haitian workers flung concrete up on top of the roof to spread so it would start to drain again.  The Haitian guys did this AFTER we painted the building so a good portion stuck to the wall of the church as seen below in the pictures.

Very unfortunate... Oh well...

One of the other things that is not so good is that one of the Dominican girls decided that she liked me.  That got a little annoying as I would go inside the church, and she would open up the window and call my name wanting me to come outside.  Our conversation:

I would say "No."
She would say "Si."
I would say "No."
She would say "Si."
I would say "No."
She would say "Si."

This went on for about ten minutes and then she left and went on with life.

The next step for the building was scraping the ceiling which we did in pairs.  We went until we got enough plaster in our eyes and then switched pairs.  Most of the inside got painted today but we have a little more to do tomorrow.  The Kliens decided to show a movie to the towns people this evening.  It was a story of Saul's transformation to Paul.  Here were my views on the movie.

1. The movie was played in Spanish with no subtitles so we could not understand it.
2. It had little plot and no action so it was hard to follow along.
3. It was a 1940's low budget film so it was a uninteresting movie even if it had been in English.

Our group ended up hiding out in the bus eating dinner while the movie was playing, but there is a bright side to everything --  the movie was only 50 min long!  Tomorrow we will be doing VBS with the kids and I hope that goes well.  For now it is off to bed. Adios and good night.
